Wick Farm Wedding, Bath - Let's Dance!
A trip to a lovely part of the country at the weekend, for Francis and Louise at Wick Farm, Fairleigh Hungerford near Bath. A Cotswold stone barn with Bath Ales on tap usually suggests a great crowd, and Saturday was no exception!
The evening kicked off with an expertly choreographed first dance, Harry Connick Jr's 'It Had To Be You', and the evening featured our first airing of 'Let's Dance' by David Bowie. Quite how this classic track hasn't made it into the set before now we don't know! The response it got suggests it's a keeper...

HAPPY NEW YEAR from all of us at Groovestone HQ: Kate, Dave, Jon, Sam, Hal, Joe, Steve. xxxx
This year, the 5-piece band were lucky enough to play in the Park Hyatt, Abu Dhabi for their New Year's Eve event. There was a New York theme with a pretty impressive New York skyline behind the stage and quirky hats for all guests to wear!
We had an amazing New Year celebration and hope yours was just as great. We're looking forward to what 2014 brings us as a band!

Rivervale Barn - 23rd December
On a rainy, windy night we made our way to the amazing Rivervale Barn in Yately for the wedding of Carly and Drystan. What a gorgeous couple! We set up in the main hallway of the barn and it was the perfect setting for a Christmassy wedding. When the nights close in, everything feels so intimate and festive and being the night before Christmas eve, their wedding had a definite Christmas-feel!
Carly and I went to infant, junior and senior school together plus we both studied at Southampton University so it was lovely to see her in her beautiful dress and play for her guests! She even showed me a very old picture of us singing in the school choir which I haven't seen in a VERY long time!!!
Here's me with the beautiful bride.
Favourite bits were playing Blurred Lines for Carly's father (he likes the beat!). It's a new edition to the set and Jon (usually on guitar) gets to exercise his cowbell skills so it keeps us entertained! We also played the Mariah classic (my favourite song to sing by far!) All I Want For Christmas is You especially for Carly. Drystan is a soldier and serving in Afghanistan took him far away from Carly and she told us that when she hears that song, she thought about how grateful she was that he was home for Christmas. We were happy to oblige of course.
So here's a belated Christmas post from Groovestone!

Horsted Place - November 8th
Claudia and James
So after just a bit of a break (!) we’re back with
our Groovestone blog.
Friday 8th November was the wedding
of Claudia and James, at Horsted Place in Uckfield, East Sussex. What a
beautiful venue, a grand stately home, perfect for the chilled November nights.
The night was especially unique as all the guests were treated to an amazing fireworks
display in the gardens in our interval.
Both sets were so much fun, guitarist Phil was
extra happy when we played Livin’ On A prayer for that guitar solo! My
favourite was Walking On Sunshine purely for the crowd participation, they were
so loud and proud! The crowd were brilliant from the start, they didn’t stop
dancing the whole time, even though the dancefloor was at least one room away
from the bar, obviously no dutch courage was needed by this crowd!
So congratulations Claudia and James and thanks
for having Groovestone play at your wedding, we loved it.

Take That! Groovestone Wedding Band in Gloucestershire
Great time playing at The Hare & Hounds Hotel in Westonbirt, Gloucestershire this weekend. We had a request from bride and groom Andy and Lou for Take That's 'Rule The World' as a first dance. A great addition to our repertoire, and it went down a storm!
We'll be back at the Hare & Hounds in May, when hopefully the weather will be a little warmer…

New Year Happenings
Well, Groovestone's globe-trotting start to the new year was a great success, with the Dubai gig for New Year's Eve getting 2009 off to a great start. Grand Hyatt Dubai rocked to the sounds of Groovestone, playing through a PA rig in the same room that was last used by Celine Dion… only the best…
January and February's 5-piece Alps tour was a raging success, with seasonaires and punters alike really warming to our sound in the Alps, gaining a small following wherever we went: La Tania, Meribel, Val d'Isere, Courchevel. A lot of soft cheese and hard saucisson was consumed, and more games of Uno than was strictly needed. Thanks to Dave Jordan at Gigz for sorting us with a great tour.
